Rembrandt Open Studio

For the fifth edition of Rembrandt Open Studio, contemporary artists Marije Gertenbach (Netherlands, 1990) and Shani Leseman (Curaçao, 1996) are setting up their studios in the house where Rembrandt lived and worked almost 400 years ago. They will be working live in the museum from 13 November 2026 to 10 January 2027. You can follow their creative process up close, view their new artworks and engage in conversation with them. You couldn’t get any closer to the craftsmanship of contemporary artists. Previous participants in Rembrandt Open Studio included Iriée Zamblé and Timothy Voges (2020), Guy Vording and Abul Hisham (2023), Neda Mirhosseini and Rens Krikhaar (2024), and Pris Roos (2025).

Shani Leseman
Shani Leseman (Curaçao, 1996) likes being surprised during the creative process. Her artworks emerge from a dialogue between her ideas, the material, and chance. All the while also leaving room for influences from the subconscious. Her work is often about dreams, the magic of everyday life, and the meaning inherent in objects. She mixes earth pigments into paint herself, which she then applies to cotton canvases or glass sheets.

Marije Gertenbach
Marije Gertenbach (Netherlands, 1990) creates paintings and prints that appear abstract yet always contain something recognisable. Amidst large planes of colour, you can just make out the shape of a body. She explores the role the female body occupies in space, in history, and in relation to others. She prefers to work on jute, observing with curiosity the exchange between paint and the surface.

Rembrandt Open Studio is made possible thanks to the support of the Gieskes Strijbis Fonds and the Mondriaan Fonds.
